Although the best way to find out if you or your child needs orthodontic treatment is to visit a practitioner, there are several signs that can alert you. Thus, teeth that overlap, teeth that, on the contrary, do not touch when closing the mouth, teeth in front or teeth that are spread apart can encourage you to consult.

Here are a few examples:

  • The teeth in front (« rabbit teeth ») or the chin recessed: this is retrognathia.
  • Dental spacing (« happiness teeth ») or, on the contrary, crowding.
  • An off-center midline, thus presenting a non-symmetrical mouth between the top and bottom of the jaw.
  • An overbite, which is characterized by the fact that the upper incisors cover and hide the lower incisors.
  • On the other hand, in the case of infraclusion, the upper incisors do not touch the lower ones, creating an open bite, a space between the two jaws.
  • The lower jaw forward (chin forward): prognathia.

Whether it is by surgery or by the installation of one or more dental appliances, your orthodontist will be able to advise you on how to improve your smile as well as your chewing, breathing and even your sleep.
