The sinus cavities are completely empty. The maxillary sinuses are set beneath the cheeks, on top of the back teeth of the upper jaw; Their lower part is called the sinus floor.
Some of the upper teeth are rooted in this area.
When these teeth are removed, there is often only a thin bone strip between the sinus and the oral cavity.Dental implants need bone for their anchoring.
If the residual volume is too small, it is impossible to place implants.
The solution is called the sinus filling or sub-sinus graft, feasible by ours dentistes in ours dental clinics in Lille (59000) and Neufchatel-Hardelot (62152).
The membrane lining the sinus is gently raised (1A & 1B) and a bone graft is placed on the sinus floor (2). Keep in mind that the sinus floor is also part of the palate where the implants are inserted in the upper maxillary. After a few months of healing, the graft is naturally replaced with the patient’s bone (3) and the implants can be placed in the new jaw bone. Temporary teeth are put in place six months after implant placement.
The sinus filling allows many patients to have implants where a few years ago we could only have a mobile denture.
In some cases, if there is enough bone, an intervention can be carried out to provide the bone filling and implant placement simultaneously. This option greatly reduces the time between the intervention and the tooth installation.
