These are multi-braces, or multi-brackets: dental appliances that are glued or sealed to the teeth. The metal wires connecting more or less flexible brackets, elastic rings and springs cause, thanks to forces dosed in an extremely precise way by your orthodontist, the planned tooth movements.
Metal brackets, the most classic, are the brackets traditionally used in orthodontics before the invention of ceramic brackets.
The ceramic versions are also very strong and do not stain the teeth. They are generally used more in adult orthodontics, as they are less visible than metal brackets.
The brackets, also known as « brackets » or « braces », can also be glued to the inside of the teeth, making the braces invisible when smiling. This technique is called « lingual orthodontics ».
Elastics:
They will be used to put the teeth of one arch « in front » of those of the other arch. They must therefore be worn day and night so that the traction they cause is continuous and effective. However, it is possible to remove them during meals, as long as they are put back on when finished.
These elastics should be changed daily, and replaced as soon as they break, the ideal being to always keep a spare pack with you.
Anchor screws:
The anchor screw appeared to be a real revolution. Previously, orthodontic treatment relied only on other properly installed teeth to correct the tooth alignment, which could have the adverse effect of moving the anchor tooth in the wrong direction to correct the others. Now, thanks to the anchor screw, the movement benefits from a stable support point, placed outside the moving teeth.
