For some situations, the orthodontist will be able to create removable braces, which can be removed, and worn for a set minimum time per day. These are either « false palates », which will aim, for example, to enlarge the size of the palate, or transparent aligners, which will have the same purpose as the classic multi-attachment device but which will have the advantage of being totally invisible to the smile.
Here are a few examples:
- Removable transparent aligners: they exert the same pressure and force on the teeth as « classic » multi-attachment appliances. They should be worn for as long as possible per day (ideally 24 hours a day), and removed only when eating.
- « False palate » expansion dental appliance: often removable but sometimes fixed, it is used to cause a widening of the palate.
- Devices with extra-oral force, which consist of a removable arch that is carried out of the mouth, and a cylinder that is installed inside. It allows you to influence both the jaws and the teeth, and is to be worn only at home.
The effectiveness of these types of removable braces lies in the time it takes to put them on. In any case, compliance with the duration of the application and the hygiene rules (removable appliance and oral hygiene) determined by the orthodontist are imperative for the smooth running of the treatment.
